Serving Peoria Heights since 1917

The Fire Department provides fire suppression, fire prevention education, technical rescue response, and emergency medical services to people throughout the Village.

About the department

The Peoria Heights Fire Department was originally chartered in 1917 to provide fire suppression services for the Village. It has grown to provide fire suppression response, fire prevention education, technical rescue response, including vehicle accidents and elevator rescues, and emergency medical services.

The department responds to approximately 1,200 calls per year from two stations—an average of approximately 3.3 calls per day.

Peoria Heights uses a combination staffing structure with full-time personnel, part-time or stipend personnel, and volunteer responders. Full-time personnel work 24-hour shifts followed by 48 hours off. Stipend personnel work 12-hour blocks, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. or 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.

Volunteer responders give their time to answer calls, often traveling to the station from their homes. The department continually recruits members to help provide protection to the Village.
